Bethsada Destitute Home
“For I was hungry, you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me”. {Matthew 25: 35, 36}
As a community, we are not much concerned about what is happening to others in as much as we are generally too selfish to look at our fellow brethren with compassion. India is growing as a strong economic power and the policies of the government encourage survival of the fittest. As economy surges ahead, there is a segment of unfortunate people who are not so strong to survive due to their inherent weakness which usually are thrust upon them by the community knowingly or unknowingly. And we cannot subscribe to the answer once given by Cain: “Am I my brother’s keeper”. Yes, we have to be keepers of our brethren.
This is the philosophy behind setting up this destitute home. Here live more than 30 fathers and mothers happily smiling always, smiling at each other. Some of them are healthy enough to contribute their mite to the running of the home. Some are not so fortunate and they are nursed by the healthy. We have voluntary nursing personnel to look after them. They are fed sumptuously, tendered affectionately and above all, provided sincere love. They are happy. This Home has been functioning for almost two decades and more than 50 of our inmates left for heavenly abode peacefully. A few are laid to permanent rest in the cemetery made exclusively for them. All their needs are met by the friends of Bethsada out of their love. Help pours in as cash, as food, as offerings and so on. And the fellowship grows.
